This summer while visiting a local quilting/sew expo, I came across the most beautiful plant dyed wool felt.  The colors were just amazing and I bought two stacks of different color squares not knowing what the heck I would do with it!  For several months I've had it sitting on a shelf where I could see it, and it made me happy just to look at the gorgeous soft colors!  Finally inspiration hit!  I would make a series of Waldorf inspired softie doll sets that would require NO hand sewing and NO turning!

Please note:  These sets CAN be made from regular felt, also.  If you'd like to use wool felt, there are many sources available online if you google wool felt or hand dyed wool felt. :)

Here is one source I found for Wool Felt:

I have not ordered from them so cannot vouch for their service one way or another, but the colors look beautiful!

If you haven't worked with wool felt before, it is amazing!  It is incredibly soft and slightly thicker than regular felt.  And no raveling!   As no turning or hand sewing is required on these sets, they are incredibly quick and easy to make - even for those of us with arthritic fingers! These designs have minimal color stops.

The first set in this sweet series is the Heart Felt Baby softie set.

This set includes a sweet little heart bag which is made entirely in one 5x7 hooping with no hand sewing required!  It takes just 3 minutes stitching time!!!  The divided pocket on front holds two Heart Softie Babies.

The Heart Softie Babies are each made in one 4x4 hooping.  They are then stuffed lightly and the final straight seam is sewn closed by sewing machine!  Each Heart Softie Baby requires only 3 minutes stitching time!

Complete instructions for this set are found at the bottom of this page.

 Heart Felt Baby Bag Instructions:

1. Hoop one layer of cutaway stabilize.

Stitch first color (bag fabric placement outline and ribbon handle placement lines).

Cut a 10" piece of 7/8" wide grosgrain ribbon.  Place one end of ribbon centered over left hand ribbon placement line so approximately 1/2" of ribbon extends below ribbon placement line and remainder is above ribbon placement line.

Stitch second color to secure.

Place second end of ribbon centered over right hand ribbon placement line so approximately 1/2" of ribbon extends below ribbon placement line.

Stitch third color to secure.

2. Cover entire design with a piece of felt.

Stitch fourth color to secure and to stitch pocket placement horizontal line.

Place a second piece of felt on top of design so top edge of felt is even with horizontal pocket placement line and entire design below pocket placement line is covered completely.

Tape entire top felt edge of pocket down so presser foot does not become entangled in pocket.

Stitch fifth color to secure and to stitch divider line.

3. Float a second piece of felt under hooped design so design is completely covered.

Stitch final color to secure.

Remove from hoop.  Trim around both felt layers and stabilizer layer perimeter of design carefully making sure not to cut ribbon handle.

You're finished!
