 What's Cooking chalk Mat instructions:

1. Hoop one layer of stabilizer.

Place a 7x9" piece of fabric on top of stabilizer, centered.

Stitch first color to secure.

2. Stitch second color (chalk fabric placement outline).

Cover outline completely with a piece of chalk fabric.

Stitch third color to secure.

Trim chalk fabric as closely to outline stitching as possible being careful not to cut stitching or fabric underneath.

Stitch fourth color (chalk fabric satin stitching).

3. Stitch fifth color (words).

4.  Stitch sixth color (ribbon hanger placement outline).

Cut a piece of ribbon desired length for hanger.

Place one end of ribbon centered over placement outline with approximately 1/2" of ribbon extending above design and rest of ribbon within design area.

Stitch seventh color to secure.

5.  Stitch eighth color (right side ribbon hanger placement outline).

Place second end of ribbon centered over placement outline with approximately 1/2" of ribbon extending above design and ribbon loop within design area.

IMPORTANT:  Tape loop SECURELY to mat along entire ribbon length so presser foot does not become entangled in it in future steps!

Stitch ninth color to secure.

6.  Cut a 9x7" piece of fabric and fold and press so it is 4.5x7".

Place folded fabric over BOTTOM half of design so folded edge is lying horizontally across middle of design and lower half of design is completely covered.

Stitch tenth color to secure.

7.  Place a second 7x9" piece of fabric on top of design, FACE DOWN, covering design completely.

Stitch 11th color to secure.

Remove from hoop.

Trim around perimeter of design leaving approximately 1/4-1/2" seam allowance.

Turn right side out.

Flip pocket to back to enclose seam.

You're finished!

HELPFUL HINT:  If you will press the chalk mat with a hot iron BEFORE turning right side out, the chalk fabric will be slightly more flexible and easier to turn.  AFTER turning, you can again press the mat WITH A PRESSING CLOTH to remove any white marks. :)

NOTE:  Do not iron chalk fabric directly without a pressing mat. It is vinyl and will melt! :)
