Join the Softies as we work our way around the calendar!  Each week for four weeks, the Softies will visit a different occasion!

There will be softies, appliques and other fun things in store!

This week's set of Year Round Softies are the Valentine's Day YearRound Softies!

The Valentine's Day YearRound Softies set is sized for the 5x7 hoop.

Love is in the air for our poodle, frog and duck!  They are busy sending Valentines to all their friends!  And what do you need to receive Valentines? Why, a mailbox, of course!

Our Mailbox is made completely in one hooping.  It has a slot in the front for inserting little lovenotes.  The overlapping back makes for easy retrieving!  It even has a little flag that buttons on and can be lifted or lowered to alert the owner of new mail!

The mailbox can be made from basic fabrics or from fun holiday prints!    Make one for your little one and one for you, and you will have an abundance of "love notes" of your own!

Also, included in this set are four little In The Hoop fabric envelopes. One of our softie friends is embroidered on the front of each, with a small heart stamp on the fourth!  These envelopes are made all in one hooping, and then the side and bottom flaps are folded back and tacked together with a button where they overlap.  The top flap can then be tucked in to "seal" your envelope. 

Fill your envelopes with a tiny written paper note, or our mini embroidered "I Love You" note!

Softies Instructions:

1. Hoop one layer of tearaway stabilizer.  Center a 5x8 piece of fleece on top of stabilizer.

2.  Stitch all colors EXCEPT the final color. 

3.  Lay a 5x8" piece of fleece on top of the stabilizer/fabric right side facing DOWN.

4.  Stitch the final color to secure in place.

5.  Carefully cut around outline of Softie, leaving an approximately 1/8 - 1/4" seam allowance.  Clip corners and curves as needed.

6.  Turn inside out.  Stuff with fiberfil as desired.

7.  Stitch opening shut.

Mailbox Instructions:

1 6x8 piece fabric

2 6x10 pieces of fabric folded in half and pressed - 6x5" finished

1.  Hoop one layer of cutaway stabilizer.

2.  Stitch the first color (fabric placement outline).

3.  Place one 6x8 piece of fabric on top of outline.

4.  Stitch the second color (mailbox outline and mail slot and flag buttonhole).

5.  Lay one folded piece of fabric on top of left side of hooped fabric so fold is overlapping center of design to the right 1/2".

6.  Lay second folded piece of fabric on top of right side of hooped fabric so fold of fabric is overlapping first piece by about 1".

7.  Two pieces of folded fabric should be overlapping one inch in the middle and completely covering outline of mailbox.

8.  Stitch final color to secure in place.  Trim leaving approximately 1/4" seam allowance.

9.  Turn and press.

10.  Carefully cut a slit at flag button hole and mail slot.

Mailbox Flag

1.  Hoop one layer of tearaway stabilizer or WSS. 

2.  Stitch the first color (fabric placement outline).

3.  Place a small piece of scrap fabric on top of outline covering completely.  Stitch second color to secure.

4.  Float a small piece of fabric underneath hoop, right side facing down.  Stitch third color to secure.

5.  Carefully trim both top and bottom fabrics as closely to the stitching as possible without cutting stitching.

6.  Stitch final color (finishing satin stitching).

7.  Remove from hoop.  Tearaway stabilizer or carefully wet WSS. 

8.  Tack a 7/8" button to the BOTTOM small end of the flag. 

9.  Button flag into button slot on mailbox.

You're finished!

Fabric Envelopes

1.  Hoop one layer of tearaway stabilizer.

2.  Stitch first color (fabric placement outline).

3.  Place one piece of 5x6" fabric on top, covering completely.

4.  Stitch all remaining colors EXCEPT for the final color.

5.  Add one piece of 5x6" fabric on top of hooped fabric, right side down.

6.  Stitch final color to secure in place.

7.  Remove tearaway stabilizer and trim around perimeter of design, clipping corners. 

8.  Turn envelope right side out and press well.

9.  Sew small turning opening shut.

10.  Fold sides and bottoms to back of envelope and press well.

Tack together with a small decorative button, making certain NOT to sew front of envelope.

Tuck top flap inside.

Love Note

1.  Hoop one layer of tearaway or WSS.

2.  Stitch the first color (fabric placement outline).

3.  Cover with 3x3" piece of fabric.

4.  Stitch second color to secure in place.

5.  Stitch third color (heart and wording).

6.  Float one piece of 3x3" fabric UNDER hoop, with right side facing DOWN.

7.  Stitch fourth color to secure in place.

8.  Carefully trim both top and bottom fabric as closely as possible without cutting stitching.

9.  Stitch final color (finishing satin stitching).

10.  Remove tearaway or wss stabilizer and insert love note into envelope.
