Sarah is in her second year of Girl Scouts and I am a leader so we are all about scouting!  This past month our troop has been learning to sew! So far the girls have tried handsewing, hand embroidery, machine embroidery and regular sewing machines.  This little bear was designed especially for my scouts!  The vest can be stitched in the same color as your favorite Scout's vest!

The Scout Bear Softie Set was designed for the 5x7 hoop.

The Softie Bear is made entirely in one hooping from inexpensive fleece with just one small straight seam to be sewn closed by hand upon completion.  It requires just 4 minutes stitching time and has only 6 color stops!

Both front sections and the back section of the Scout Bear's Vest are made entirely in one 5x7 hooping. The vest requires only 11 minutes stitching time and 8 color stops.  Upon completion, simply stitch the pieces together at the shoulders and sides.  The vest is made from inexpensive felt and can be color coordinated to match your favorite little scout's vest!

Scout Bear Softie Instructions:

1. Hoop one layer of stabilizer.

Center a 6x8" piece of fleece on top of stabilizer.

Stitch first color to secure.

2. Stitch second color (eyes).

Stitch third color (nose).

Stitch fourth color (smile).

Stitch fifth color (cheeks, and heart).

2.  Float a second piece of 6x8" fleece on top of hoop.

Stitch final color to secure.

3. Remove from hoop and trim around perimeter of design leaving approximately 1/4" seam allowance, clipping corners and curves well.  Stuff with fiberfil and sew seam opening closed by hand. You're finished!

Scout Bear Vest Instructions:

1. Hoop one layer of cutaway stabilizer.

Center a 6x8" piece of felt on top of stabilizer.

Stitch first color (vest pieces outlines).

2. Stitch colors 2-7 (badges).

3.  Float a second 6x8" piece of felt under design, covering all pieces completely.

Stitch final color to secure.

4. Remove from hoop.  

Trim around perimeter of each piece a scant 1/8" outside stitching outline.

 Place vest front pieces on top of vest back piece, right sides together.

(Badges will be inside the "sandwich" of pieces.)

Stitch each shoulder and side seam with a scant 1/8" seam allowance.

Turn right side out and place on Bear Scout.

You're finished!
