Santa Bags

In The Hoop Santa Bags are the fourth set in the Christmas In July Series.

Thank you to everyone who preordered this series!

The In The Hoop Santa Bags are designed for 3 hoop sizes: 6x10, 5x7, and 4x4.

Each Santa Bag is made entirely in one hooping with no hand sewing required.

Either a small or long strap can be added for a purse or tote style Santa Bag.

Santa Bag Instructions:

For Each Santa Bag you will need:

6x10 - two 7x22" pieces of red fabric folded and pressed to 7x11"

5x7 - two 6x16" pieces of red fabric folded and pressed to 6x8"

4x4 - two 5x10" pieces of red fabric folded and pressed to 5x5"

1 ribbon strap - ribbon length can vary as desired depending on whether a small handle is desired or a long strap and customized to child's height.

I used a 12" ribbon for the short strap on the 5x7 and 6x10" totes

and a 30" ribbon for the long strap on the 4x4 tote

1. Hoop one layer of stabilizer.

Stitch first color (purse fabric placement outline).

Place one piece of folded fabric on top of outline, covering completely, with folded edge even with top horizontal line.

IMPORTANT:  Tape entire folded edge of fabric securely onto stabilizer to prevent presser foot from becoming entangled in future steps.

Stitch second color to secure.

2.  Stitch third color (beard/hair fabric placement outline).

Place a piece of fabric on top of beard/hair fabric outline, covering completely.

Stitch fourth color to secure.

Trim fabric at TOP EDGE OF DESIGN ONLY as closely to stitching as possible.  Do not trim sides or bottoms of beard fabric.

3.  Stitch fifth color (beard/hair satin stitching).

4.  Stitch sixth color (face fabric placement outline).

5.  Place a piece of fabric on top of face outline, covering completely.

Stitch seventh color to secure.

6.  Trim fabric as closely to face outline stitching as possible, being careful not to cut fabric underneath or stitching.

Stitch eighth color (face satin stitching).

7.  Stitch ninth color (eyebrow fabric placement outline).

Place a piece of fabric on top of eyebrow fabric placement outline, covering completely.

Stitch tenth color to secure.

8.  Trim fabric as closely to eyebrow outline as possible without cutting fabric underneath or stitching.

Stitch 11th color (eyebrow satin stitching and second eyebrow fabric placement outline).

Place a piece of fabric on top of eyebrow fabric placement outline, covering completely.

Stitch 12th color to secure.

Trim fabric as closely to eyebrow outline as possible without cutting fabric underneath or stitching.

Stitch 13th color (eyebrow satin stitching and moustache fabric placement outline).

9.   Place a piece of fabric on top of moustache fabric placement outline, covering completely.

Stitch 14th color to secure.

Trim fabric as closely to moustache outline as possible without cutting fabric underneath or stitching.

Stitch 15th color (moustache satin stitching).

10.  Stitch 16th color (nose fabric placement outline).

Place a piece of fabric on top of nose fabric placement outline, covering completely.

Stitch 17th color to secure.

Trim fabric as closely to nose outline as possible without cutting fabric underneath or stitching.

Stitch 18th color (nose satin stitching).

11.  Stitch 19th color (eyes).

12.  Slide one end of a piece of ribbon between red purse fabric and stabilizer on left hand side so approximately 1" of ribbon is inserted.

Stitch 20th color to secure.

13.  Slide other end of ribbon between red purse fabric and stabilizer on right hand side so approximately 1" of ribbon is inserted.

IMPORTANT:  Tape Ribbon Handle  down securely so presser foot does not become entangled in ribbon in subsequent steps.

Stitch 21stcolor to secure. 

Place second piece of folded fabric on top of design so folded edge is even with first folded edge.

Stitch final color to secure.

Remove from hoop.

Trim around perimeter of design leaving approximately 1/4"-1/2" seam allowance.

Clip curves and corners well.

Turn right side out.

Remove tape.

You're finished!
