Pocket Shape Pictorial
The new pocket shapes are one of the easiest in the hoop projects you will find! They can be made completely from fabric scraps! If you wish to use the design as a simple applique without the pocket, simply skip adding the second layer of fabric.
Instructions:
1. Hoop a layer of tearaway or cutaway stabilizer and pin your garment to the top.
2. Some pocket shapes have detail stitching (antennae, facial features, etc.) at the beginning of the design, and others at the end. If the chosen design has it at the beginning, stitch through the detailing and onto the first outline stitch of the pocket.
3. Stitch the first outline of the pocket onto your garment. This shows you where to place your fabric.

Lay the fabric over the outline stitching - make sure all of the stitching is covered by the fabric.

4. Stitch the second outline stitching. This holds the fabric in place.
5. With tiny scissors (I prefer tiny curved ones but others like applique scissors) carefully clip the fabric around the outline stitching as closely as possible.

6. Lay a piece of folded fabric on top of the design so the fold edge forms the top of the pocket. Be sure that the folded edge is not placed so high that it will be stitched over in the final satin stitching! Other than this, you may place the pocket fabric as high or as low as you wish.

7. Stitch the pocket outline to secure the fabric in place. Carefully trim the excess fabric away from the pocket.

8. Stitch the final satin stitch around the perimeter of the design.
9. If you design has detail stitching after the applique/pocket portion, continue with the detail stitching (antennae, facial features, etc.).

You're finished! You've now made your first Pocket Shape!
