The Monster Shelf Sitters are in the hoop little stuffies with ribbon arms and legs.  They are stuffed with polyfil and can be perched upon a shelf with their legs dangling over the edge! 

Each one requires 6 minutes of stitching time or LESS!

The Monster Shelf Sitters are incredibly quick and easy to make from inexpensive fleece!  They are made entirely in the hoop except for one small straight seam which is sewn shut by hand upon completion.

The Monster Shelf Sitters are sized for three different hoops: 6x10, 5x7, and 4x4.

Make all three sizes for an entire family of shelf sitters!

The Monster Shelf Sitters Instructions for 6x10 (measurements for 5x7 and 4x4 designs are given respectively in parentheses):

1.  Hoop one layer of cutaway or tearaway stabilizer.

Place a 7x10" (6x8", 5x5") piece of fleece on top of stabilizer.

Stitch first color (outline).

2.  Stitch second color (eyes).

4.   Stitch fifth color (left arm ribbon placement outline).

Place an 8" (7", 6") piece of 1 1/2" (7/8", 5/8") ribbon centered over top of ribbon placement outline face down with 1/2" extending outside design area.

Stitch sixth color to secure in place.

6.  Stitch seventh color (right arm ribbon placement outline).

Place an 8" (7", 6") piece of 1 1/2" (7/8", 5/8") ribbon centered over top of ribbon placement outline face down with 1/2" extending outside design area.

Stitch eighth color to secure in place.

7. Stitch ninth color (right leg ribbon placement outline).

Place an 8" (7", 6") piece of 1 1/2" (7/8", 5/8") ribbon centered over top of ribbon placement outline face down with 1/2" extending outside design area.

Stitch 10th color to secure in place.

8.  Stitch 11th color (left leg ribbon placement outline).

Place an 8" (7", 6") piece of 1 1/2" (7/8", 5/8") ribbon centered over top of ribbon placement outline face down with 1/2" extending outside design area.

Stitch 12th color to secure in place.

9. Secure all four ribbon arms and legs inside the design area with a piece of tape so only the 1/2" edges extend outside the monster outline. 

Place a piece of 7x10" (6x8", 5x5") fleece face down on top of hooped stabilizer/fabric.

Stitch the final color to secure.

11.  Remove from hoop and trim around perimeter of designs leaving approximately 1/4-1/2" seam allowance.  Clip curves and corners.

Turn inside out and remove tape from ribbon legs and arms.

Tie a knot at the end of each leg and arm.

If desired, add bow or bell embellishments.

NOTE:  Please do not add any embellishments to shelf sitters that will be played with by small children for safety reasons.

Stuff firmly with fiberfill and sew seam opening shut.
