The Felt Kite Chalk Banner was designed for the 5x7 hoop.  These quick and easy banners are made with inexpensive felt and chalk fabric.  Each Kite takes only 5 minutes stitching time!  Stitch enough kites for your banner and write your name or message with chalk!  Then simply erase it for the next time!

Ribbon ties and kite tails are added in the hoop.  No hand stitching is required!

Felt Kite Chalk Banner Instructions:

1. Hoop one layer of cutaway stabilizer.

Stitch first color (felt and ribbon placement lines).

2. Cut 2 narrow 8" ribbon pieces for ties and 1 8" ribbon piece for kite tail.

Place one narrow ribbon piece centered over right ribbon tie placement line so approximately 1/2" of ribbon extends inside design and remainder of ribbon extends outside design area.  

Stitch second color to secure.

Repeat with second narrow ribbon piece on right hand side.

Stitch third color to secure.

Place kite tail ribbon  centered over bottom tail ribbon placement line so approximately 1/2" of ribbon extends inside design and remainder of ribbon extends outside design area. 

Stitch fourth color to secure.

3.  Place a 6x8" piece of felt on top of design covering completely.

Stitch fifth color to secure.

Stitch sixth color (chalk fabric placement outline).

Cover outline completely with a piece of chalk fabric.

Stitch seventh color to secure.

Trim chalk fabric as closely to stitching as possible being careful not to cut stitching or felt underneath.

Stitch eighth color to secure.

4. Float a second piece of 6x8" felt under hooped design, covering design completely.

Stitch final color to secure.

5. Remove from hoop. Trim around perimeter of design being careful not to cut ribbon ties or ribbon tail.

Tie kites together at sides with ribbon ties and write message and hang.
