The Ghost Crayon Chalkboard Bag is made entirely in one 5x7 hooping with no other hand sewing required!
This bag has six pockets to hold crayons or chalk, a ghost shaped chalk board (using chalk fabric) and can hold a small notebook or paper or other art supplies for on the go fun!
It can be made with a short tote style strap or a longer purse style strap as desired.
I used glow in the dark thread for my ghost chalkboard satin stitching for extra fun! If desired, vinyl or applique fabric can be used in lieu of the chalkboard fabric.

Ghost Crayon Chalkboard Bag for the 5x7 hoop (includes pes, jef & hus formats):
Ghost Crayon Chalkboard Bag Instructions: NOTE: If desired, vinyl can be used in place of chalk fabric. To use vinyl, stitch first color of ghost. Carefully trim away both layers of fabric inside ghost outline as closely to stitching as possible being careful not to cut stabilizer or stitching. Cover with a piece of medium weight vinyl. Continue as directed. 1. Hoop one layer of stabilizer. Stitch first color (fabric placement outline). Cut 2 pieces of 6x16" pieces of fabric and fold in half and press so they are each 6x8". Place one piece of folded fabric on top of fabric placement outline so outline is completely covered and folded edge is even with top horizontal stitching line. Tape folded edge securely down along entire folded length so presser foot does not become entangled in future steps. Stitch second color to secure and to stitch pocket placement outline. 2. Stitch third color (ghost chalk mat fabric placement outline). Place a piece of chalk fabric on top of outline, covering completely. Stitch fourth color to secure. Trim chalk fabric as closely to outline as possible being careful not to cut stitching or fabric underneath. Stitch fifth color (ghost satin stitching). 3. Cut a 6x8" piece of fabric for pocket and fold in half and press so it is 6x4". Place folded pocket fabric on top of pocket placement line so folded edge is even with horizontal pocket placement stitching line and design below line is completely covered. Tape folded edge securely down along entire folded length so presser foot does not become entangled in future steps. Stitch sixth color to secure and to stitch divider lines. 4. Cut a piece of ribbon desired length for strap or handle. Place one end of ribbon at top left hand side of design so approximately 1/2" extends diagonally outside of purse outline, and remainder is extending diagonally toward center of design (pointed upwards). Stitch seventh color to secure. 5. Place second end of ribbon at top right hand side of design so approximately 1/2" extends diagonally outside of purse outline, and remainder is extending diagonally toward center of design (pointed upwards). Tape or pin ribbon within purse outline so presser foot does not become entangled in future steps. Be sure no part of ribbon extends across outline perimeter except for cut ends that extend 1/2" outside design. Stitch eighth color to secure. 6. Place second 6x8" piece of folded fabric on top of fabric placement outline so outline is completely covered and folded edge is even with folded edge of previously placed folded fabric. Tape folded edge securely down along entire folded length so presser foot does not become entangled in future steps. Stitch final color to secure. 7. Remove from hoop. Trim around perimeter of design leaving approximately 1/4-1/2" seam allowance. Clip curves and corners well. Trim stabilizer from bag opening. Turn right side out and press. You're finished! |
