Felt Carrot Bag & Bunnies

These quick and easy pieces are made from wool felt for a Waldorf inspired look!

The Carrot Bag is made entirely in one hooping with no hand sewing required!  Various widths of ribbon are added in the hoop for the carrot top!  A ribbon shoulder strap allows your little one to carry the carrot bag everywhere!

The front pocket on the carrot bag is sized perfectly for the coordinating Wool Felt Bunny!  This sweet bunny is stitched entirely in one hooping with no turning required and just one small seam to be sewn closed by machine after stuffing!

Bunny Softie Instructions:

1. Hoop one layer of stabilizer.
For 4x4 softie, center one 5x5" piece of wool felt on top of hoop.
For 5x7 softie, center one 6x8" piece of wool felt on top of hoop.
Stitch first color to secure.
2. Stitch second color (eyes).
Stitch third color (nose).
Stitch fourth color (smile).
3. Float a second piece of wool fleece the same size as the first under the hooped design, covering design completely.
Stitch fifth color to secure.
4.  Remove from hoop.  Trim around all edges of softie, EXCEPT the seam opening.  Leaving this area untrimmed will allow for easier stitching after stuffing.
Lightly stuff with polyfil.  
Sew seam opening closed on the sewing machine.
Trim around remainder of softie.
You're finished!

Carrot Bag Instructions:

1. Hoop one layer of cutaway stabilizer.

Stitch first color (carrot bag felt placement outline).

2. Cut a 30" piece of narrow ribbon for shoulder strap.  Place one end of ribbon on left hand side of outline so approximately 1/2" of ribbon extends INSIDE design outline and the rest extends outside design outline.  Ribbon should be placed at the very top of the left hand side, right below the top straight horizontal line of carrot bag outline.

Stitch second color to secure.

Repeat with second end of ribbon strap on right side.

Stitch third color to secure.

Stitch fourth color (carrot top placement outline).

Cut a variety of ribbon pieces 6-7" long.  Fold each ribbon in half to form a 3- 3 1/2" loop.  Place loops on top of carrot top placement outline, one at a time, taping in place right below and right above outline, slightly overlapping.  The number of loops used will vary according to your ribbon width choices.  I used ten ribbon loops on the 5x7 bag and 5 ribbon loops on the 4x4 bag.

IMPORTANT:  Place a piece of stabilizer on TOP of ribbon loops, covering completely.  This will enable you to stitch the ribbon loops in place easily without the presser foot becoming entangled in the loops.

Stitch fifth color to secure.

Trim stabilizer away from carrot top outline being careful not to cut ribbon loops.

3.  Cover entire carrot bag design with a piece of felt.  

Float a second piece of felt UNDER hooped design, covering carrot bag outline completely.

Stitch sixth color to secure and to stitch pocket placement line.

Cover entire design below pocket placement line with another piece of felt.  Top edge of felt should be even with pocket placement outline.

Stitch seventh color to secure.

4.  Remove from hoop.

Carefully trim around perimeter of design being very careful not to cut ribbon shoulder strap or carrot top ribbon loops.

I trim one layer at a time for best results.

Insert bunny into bag pocket.
