If you liked the Angel/Doll and the Animal Softies, you're going to love the Duck Softies!
These sweet little softies are sized for both the 4x4 and 5x7 hoops.
Make them as simple softies, embroidered on one, or both sides, or add fun "wheels" to them for a 3D effect!
So cute for a little one's room or to add to a gift as an adornment!
Softie Ducks and Wheels are made in the hoop. They are then removed from the hoop, trimmed, turned, and slip stitched closed by hand. Wheels and/or buttons are also sewn on by hand. PLEASE DO NOT ADD BUTTONS, BOWS, or other small embellishments if you softies will be played with by a small child as they could be a choking hazard!
Note: Wheels are sewn on for a fun 3D effect, but do not actually turn.

Duck Softies Instructions:
1. Hoop one layer of cutaway stabilizer. Take a piece of fabric (I like fleece best!) the size of your hoop and pin around the outer edges (or float if desired).
2. Stitch out all of the colors until the last one.
3. You now have two choices. You can either make your duck one sided, or two sided. If you want to make your duck two sided, go to #5. If you want to make your duck one sided go to #4.
4. Float another piece of fabric on top of the hoop (right side facing down) and stitch the final color. Remove the fabric from hoop. Trim around the edges and clip any corners. Turn duck right side out. Stuff and slip stitch opening closed.
5. If you want to make your duck two sided, skip the final color stitching on the first duck. Remove from hoop and trim around the perimeter of the duck leaving a 1/2" seam allowance.
Hoop a second piece of cutaway stabilizer and repeat steps 1-3, stopping before the last color stitching. Place the first duck that you previously stitched on top of the hooped duck, right sides together, matching up the outlines. Pin or float in place on the inside of the design, making certain that no needles are in the path of your presser foot. Stitch the final color to join the two pieces.
Remove from hoop, trim, clip corners, turn, stuff and slip stitch closed.
WHEELS:
If desired, you can add wheels to you duck! You can either sew on large button wheels or make fabric wheels. To make the fabric wheels simply hoop one layer of cutaway stabilizer. Pin or float one piece of fleece or fabric to the stabilizer and stitch the first color. Add a second layer of fabric or fleece (right side facing down) on top of the hooped fabric. Stitch the second color stitching. Remove from hoop and cut out your wheels leaving a 1/2" seam allowance.
Clip the around the circle to allow it to turn easier. Turn right side out, stuff and slip stitch opening closed.
Place one wheel on each side of duck and stitch through wheel, duck, other wheel several times to secure. Decorative buttons can be added if desired, but PLEASE DO NOT use embellishments on items to be given to small children as they can be a choking hazard!
