Message Door Knobbies

 Message Door Knobbies are the first set in the Chalk Fabric Series.

Message Door Knobbies were designed for both the 5x7 and 6x10 hoop.

Each one is made entirely in one hooping with hand sewing required.

Door knobbies can be hung upon any door to leave a message for others or yourself!

Door knobbies have a message area appliqued from chalk fabric. 

Leave a message with ordinary chalk, then simply wipe clean with a damp cloth for the next use.

Door Knobbie Set (includes pes, jef & hus formats): 

 

 Door Knobbie Instructions:

1. Hoop one layer of very heavy weight water soluble stabilizer such as Badgemaster or Ultra Solvy.

Stitch first color (door knobbie fabric placement outline).

Stitch second color (chalk ribbon tie placement outline).

Cut a 20" piece of narrow ribbon and fold in half.

place folded ribbon centered over ribbon tie outline so loop extends inside design approximately 1//2" and remainder of ribbon ends extend outside design outline.

IMPORTANT:  Securely tape ribbon for about an inch right below ribbon outline, so presser foot does not become entangled in ribbon in future steps.

Stitch third color to secure.

2.  Cut 2 8x12" pieces of fabric and 1 8x12' piece of fleece for 6x10 door knobbie.

Cut 2 7x9" pieces of fabric and 1 7x9' piece of fleece for 5x7 door knobbie.

Place one piece of fleece centered on top of door knobbie fabric placement outline, covering completely. 

Place one piece of fabric on top of fleece, centered, covering outline completely.

Stitch fourth color to secure.

3.  Stitch fifth color (chalkboard fabric placement outline).

Place a piece of chalk fabric on top of chalkboard outline, covering completely.

Stitch sixth color to secure.

Trim fabric as closely to chalk outline as possible being careful not to cut stitching or fabric underneath.

Stitch seventh color (chalkboard satin stitching).

4.  Float second piece of fabric BENEATH hooped design, covering design completely on back.  Fabric should be face down.

Stitch eighth color to secure.

5.  Stitch ninth color (hole outline).

Remove hoop from machine, but do NOT remove project from hoop.

CAREFULLY cut away fabric and fleece from inside hole outline as closely to stitching as possible being careful not to cut stitching or stabilizer.

Flip hoop upside down, and closely cut bottom fabric carefully away inside hole outline, being careful not to cut stitching or stabilizer.

 Replace hoop on machine.

Stitch tenth color to reinfore.

trim any fuzzies away from hole outline.

Stitch eleventh color (hole satin stitching).

6.  Carefully trim fabric and fleece layers closely to door knobbie outline being careful not to cut stitching or stabilizer.

Carefully trim bottom fabric layer under hoop closely to door knobbie outline being careful not to cut stitching or stabilizer.

Stitch 12th color to reinfore.

Trim any fuzzies around perimeter of outline.

Stitch final color (door knobbie perimeter satin stitching).

Remove from hoop.

Remove excess stabilizer.

Tie piece of chalk at bottom of door knobbie.

You're finished!
