Chunky Hippo Softies are made from inexpensive fleece.

Each one is made completely in one hooping

except for one small seam which is sewn shut by hand upon completion.

They are an incredibly quick and easy project!

Chunky Hippos can be as girly or boyish as you want them to be simply by varying the fleece design/colors.

Chunky Hippo Softies Instructions:

1.  Hoop one layer of stabilizer.

Float a piece of fleece (1" wider and 1" longer than hoop) on top of hooped stabilizer.

Stitch first color (eyes, mouth, nostrils).

2.  Stitch second color (hippo outline).

3.  Stitch third color (foot fabric placement outline).

Place a piece of fabric on top of foot outline, covering completely.

4.  Stitch fourth color to secure.

Trim fabric as closely to stitching as possible, being careful not to cut fabric underneath or stitching.

5.  Stitch fifth color (first foot satin stitching and second foot fabric placement outline).

Place a piece of fabric on top of second foot outline, covering completely.

6.  Stitch sixth color to secure.

Trim fabric as closely to stitching as possible, being careful not to cut fabric underneath or stitching.

7.  Stitch seventh color (second foot satin stitching).

8.  Place a second piece of fleece same size as first FACING DOWN on top of hooped stabilizer/fleece.

Stitch final color to secure.

9.  Remove from hoop, and trim, leaving approximately 1/4-1/2" seam allowance.

Clip curves and corners well.

Turn right side out, stuff, and sew small seam opening closed by hand.
