These handy little Chalk Label Tags will serve a multitude of purposes!  They can be used to label clothing drawers, toy or craft baskets, or even hung on wine bottles!  I've used chalk fabric in mine, but if you prefer you can substitute plain muslin for the chalk fabric and write on it with fabric markers for permanant Label Tags.

The Chalk Label Tags are made in the 4x4 hoop.  Each one is made entirely in one hooping with no other hand sewing required! They can be made with a ribbon loop or ribbon ties (for tying around a basket handle).

The Chalk Label Tags set includes both the oval Chalk Label Tag and the Rectangular Chalk Label Tag.

 Chalk Label tag Instructions:

1. Hoop one layer of heavy duty water soluble stabilizer (I used Badgemaster for best results).

Stitch first color (label outline and ribbon placement lines).

OVAL VARIATION:  Cut two pieces of ribbon (for ribbon ties) or one piece of ribbon (for ribbon loop).

If using ribbon loop, fold ribbon in half and place centered over ribbon line with approximately 1/2" of ribbon ends extending inside design, and remainder of loop extending OUTSIDE design.

If using ribbon ties, stack the two pieces of ribbon on top of each other and place centered over ribbon line with approximately 1/2" of ribbon ends extending inside design and remainder of ribbon lengths extending outside design.

IMPORTANT:  Tape Ribbons in place securely, so presser foot does not become entangled in ribbons in future steps.

Stith next color to secure.

RECTANGULAR VARIATION:  Cut two pieces of ribbon (for ribbon ties) or one piece of ribbon (for ribbon loop).

If using ribbon loop, place one edge of ribbon centered over ribbon line on left with approximately 1/2" of ribbon ends extending inside design, and remainder of ribbon extending OUTSIDE design.  Stitch next color to secure.  Place second end of ribbon centered over ribbon line on right with approximately 1/2" of ribbon end extending inside design, and remainder of ribbon extending OUTSIDE design.

IMPORTANT:  Tape Ribbon in place securely, so presser foot does not become entangled in ribbon in future steps.

Stitch next color to secure.

If using ribbon ties, place one piece of ribbon centered over left ribbon placement line with approximately 1/2" of ribbon end extending inside design and remainder of ribbon extending outside design.

Stitch next color to secure.

Place second ribbon centered over right ribbon placement line with approximately 1/2" of ribbon end extending inside design and remainder of ribbon extending outside design.

Stitch next color to secure.

3. Stitch next color (chalk fabric placement outline).

Place a piece of chalk fabric (or muslin if desired) on top of outline, covering completely.

Stitch next color.

Trim chalk fabric as closely to outline as possible being careful not to cut stitching or fabric underneath.

Stitch next color (chalk fabric satin stitching).

4.  Float a second piece of fabric FACE DOWN, under hooped design.  Stitch next color to secure.

Trim both pieces of fabric ON TOP of and BENEATH hooped stabilizer as closely to outline stitching as possible being careful not to cut RIBBONS, stitching or stabilizer.

Stitch final color (label satin stitching).

5. Remove from hoop.  Remove excess stabilizer.

You're finished!
