Chalkboard Banner Flags

The Chalkboard Banner Flags were designed for three hoop sizes: 6x10, 5x7, and 4x4.  Each flag is made entirely in one hooping with just one small seam to be sewn closed by hand or machine after completion.  They require 6 minutes or less stitching time each!

You'll find a variety of uses for Chalkboard Banner Flags! Stitch a stack of them to keep on hand!  They are great for making a temporary banner for a lemonade stand, for puppet shows, or birthdays!  Personalize a child's room with their name or make a Merry Christmas banner!  Whatever use you find for your chalk banner, it can simply be wiped clean after use so it is ready for the next occasion!

Each flag has a ribbon tie at each end to easily tie it to another flag.  If desired, a ribbon loop can be placed on the outside edge of the beginning and ending flag for easy hanging.

The Chalkboard Banner Flag set includes:
Chalkboard Banner Flag for the 6x10 hoop

Chalkboard Banner Flag for the 5x7 hoop

Chalkboard Banner Flag for the 4x4 hoop

 Chalkboard Banner Flag Instructions:

SEE NOTE AT END FOR BEGINNING AND ENDING FLAG

Cut 2 pieces of fabric for the hoop size required:

6x10 - 2 pieces 7x11" fabric

5x7 - 2 pieces 6 x 8" fabric

4x4 - 2 pieces 5x5" fabric

Cut 2 pieces of 8" ribbon (1/4" wide)

1. Hoop one layer of stabilizer.

Place one piece of fabric centered on top of hooped stabilizer.

Stitch first color to secure.

2. Stitch second color (chalkboard fabric placement outline).

Place a piece of chalk fabric on top of outline, covering completely.

Stitch third color to secure.

Trim fabric as closely to chalkboard outline stitching as possible being careful not to cut stitching or fabric underneath.

Stitch fourth color (chalkboard satin stitching).

3.  Place one piece of ribbon at top left hand side of flag so ribbon is approximately 1/4" from top horizontal line and approxinately 1/2" of ribbon extends past left side of outline and remainder extends inside outline.

Stitch fifth color to secure.

Place second piece of ribbon at top right hand side of flag so ribbon is approximately 1/4" from top horizontal line and approxinately 1/2" of ribbon extends past right side of outline and remainder extends inside outline.

Stitch sixth color to secure.

4.  Tape ribbon lengths INSIDE design area so they do not cross stitched outline.

Place second piece of fabric on top of hooped design, covering completely, FACE DOWN.

Stitch final color to secure.

5.  Remove from hoop.  Trim around perimeter of design leaving approximately 1/4-1/2" seam allowance.

Turn right side out.  Stitch seam opening closed by hand or machine topstitching.

If chalkboard fabric is wrinkled, press flag on BACK using a pressing cloth.  Chalkboard fabric is vinyl and CAN MELT if ironed directly without a pressing cloth.

NOTE FOR BEGINNING AND ENDING FLAGS:

For the beginning and ending flags, you can replace the 8" length of ribbon with a 4" piece of ribbon folded in half to form a loop.  Place loop at left hand edge in place of ribbon length for beginning flag.  (Loop will extend inside design outline and 1/2" of cut ends will extend outside design).

Repeat for ending flag, placing loop at RIGHT side of design.
