I've been asked where to find the cute novelty felt and embossed felt pictured. :)  I purchased mine at Hobby Lobby. If you do not have a local Hobby Lobby, you can purchase the felt print squares online:

Chalkboard fabric can be purchased at fabric.com.

My 5x7 Chalkboard Rolll is a very popular design on my site.  However, over the last couple of years, I've had many emails from those who stitch them in large quantities - for school classes, party favors, charitable causes - asking are there any time saving methods when stitching out great numbers.  So I put on my thinking cap and came up with the BRAND NEW 6 MINUTE 5x7 Felt Chalkboard Rolls!

These chalkboard rolls are made from 3 half sheets of felt in just 6 minutes stitching time with NO HAND SEWING  and NO TURNING required!  Felt is available in a variety of patterns now so you can still make these chalkboard rolls colorful and fun while cutting way down on the work!

Each 6 Minute 5x7 Felt Chalkboard Roll has a large chalk area and holds a piece of chalk in the pocket and has only 9 color stops!  If you find in the hoop projects intimidating, this super easy design is the one for you!

NO fabric measuring required!!! Simply cut 2 sheets of felt in half and one piece of ribbon and one piece of chalkboard fabric and you're ready to stitch!

6 Minute 5x7 Felt Chalkboard Roll Instructions:

HINT:  I iron my chalkboard fabric on the wrong side using a pressing cloth so it is more pliable and easier to roll.

BE CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH IRON DIRECTLY ON CHALKBOARD FABRIC AS IT CAN MELT.

Before using, condition chalkboard by coloring completely with a piece of chalk and then wiping off.

Cut 2 pieces of 9x12' felt squares in half so they are 9x6".

Cut 1 24" piece of ribbon.

Cut 1 5x5" piece of chalkboard fabric.

1. Hoop one layer of cutaway stabilizer.

Stitch first color (chalkboard roll fabric placement outline and ribbon placement line).

Fold a 24" piece of ribbon in half and place centered over ribbon placement line so approximately 1/2" of loop extends over ribbon placement line into design area and the long cut ends extend outside ribbon design area.

Sttich second color to secure.

2. Cover entire  design area with one piece of cut felt.

Stitch third color to secure.

3.  Stitch fourth color (chalkboard fabric placement outline).

Cover outline completely with chalkboard fabric.

Stitch fifth color to secure.

Trim around perimeter of chalkboard fabric as closely to stitching as possible being careful not to cut stitching or fabric underneath.

Stitch sixth color (chalkboard satin stitching).

4. Stitch seventh color (pocket fabric placement outline).

Place a piece of felt on top of pocket  so top edge is even with top pocket placement line and entire portion of design below pocket placement line is completely covered.

Tape entire piece of felt down along pocket placement line so presser foot does not become entangled in pocket in future steps.

Stitch eighth color to secure.

4. Float a third piece of cut felt under hooped design so entire design is completely covered.

Stitch final color to secure.

Remove from hoop. Trim all felt/stabilizer layers around perimeter of design  being very careful not to cut ribbon.

Insert chalk, roll, and tie.  You're finished!
