PLEASE NOTE:  This design is NOT the same as the 3 Minute Felt Crayon Roll design.  The 3 Minute Felt Crayon Roll design is an entirely different design.  It has a horizontal shape and is shorter and designed to fit up to 9 crayons.  The 3 Minute Felt Pencil Roll is a vertical design.  It only has 6 pockets and is designed to hold pencils, paintbrushes or crochet hooks.  Thank you!

Note:  unsharpened pencils are approximately 7 1/2" and will poke out the end of the 5x7 roll by approximately 1/2" if inserted unsharpened.  If sharpened first, though, they fit nicely. :)

The 6x10 roll will accomodate both sharpened or unsharpened pencils.

These Pencil rolls are made from 3 sheets of felt in just 3 or 4 minutes stitching time (depending on size stitched) with NO HAND SEWING  and NO TURNING required!  Felt is available in a variety of patterns now so you can still make these crayon rolls colorful and fun while cutting way down on the work!

Each Felt Pencil Roll holds 6 pencils or crochet hooks and has only 5 color stops!  If you find in the hoop projects intimidating, this super easy design is the one for you!

NO fabric measuring required!!! Simply use easy sheets of felt and one piece of ribbon and you're ready to stitch!

Felt Pencil Roll Instructions:

Cut 1 pieces of 9x12' felt squares in half so they are 9x6".

Cut 1 24" piece of ribbon.

1. Hoop one layer of cutaway stabilizer.

Stitch first color (pencil roll fabric placement outline and ribbon placement line).

Fold a 24" piece of ribbon in half and place centered over ribbon placement line so approximately 1/2" of loop extends over ribbon placement line into design area and the long cut ends extend outside ribbon design area.

Sttich second color to secure.

2. Cover entire  design area with one piece full sheet of felt.

Stitch third color to secure and to stitch pocket placement line.

3.  Place a half piece of cut felt on top of design so top edge is even with pocket placement line and entire portion of design below pocket placement line is completely covered.

Tape entire piece of felt down along pocket placement line so presser foot does not become entangled in pocket in future steps.

Stitch fourth color to secure.

4. Float one full sheet of felt under hooped design so entire design is completely covered FACE DOWN.

Stitch final color to secure.

Remove from hoop. Trim all felt/stabilizer layers around perimeter of design  being very careful not to cut ribbon.

Insert pencils or crochet hooks, roll, and tie.  You're finished!
