#1 Dad Pocket Wraps

The #1 Dad Pocket Wrap design can be made to fit any size box of candy or a variety of other things including tennis ball tubes, dvd cases, etc! It slips onto the box with an elastic band to hold it securely in place. A gift card, movie rental gift card or a few dollars can be inserted into the pocket for a fun, inexpensive gift. Great for Dad's birthday or Father's Day!
Each #1 Dad Pocket Wrap is made completely in one hooping with no other sewing required. It includes a stitched 4x4 version and an appliqued 5x7 version.

#1 Dad Pocket Wrap (includes pes, jef and hus formats):
NOTE: The 6" elastic will fit most standard movie candy sized boxes or a tube of tennis balls. It can be lengthened or shortened though to accomodate any size box or other items.
1. Hoop one layer of stabilizer.
Stitch first color (pocket wrap fabric placement outline).
Cut 2 5x9" pieces of fabric and fold in half and press so they are 5x4.5".
Place one piece of folded fabric on top of wrap outline so folded edge is even with top horizontal straight stitching line.
Stitch second color to secure.
2. Stitch third color (#1 Dad wording).
3. Stitch 4th color (elastic placement outline).
Cut a 6" piece of 1 inch wide elastic.
Place one end of elastic centered over left hand elastic placement outline so approximately 1/4" of elastic extends outside design and remainder of elastic is inside design.
Stitch 5th color to secure.
4/ Repeat with other end of elastic on right hand side.
Tape elastic securely down INSIDE design perimeters (it can be folded over itself in the center so it fits) so presser foot does not become entangled in future steps.
Stitch 6th color to secure.
5. Place second piece of folded fabric on top of design so folded edge is even with previously placed folded edge.
Stitch final color to secure.
Remove from hoop. Trim around perimeter of design leaving approximately 1/4" seam allowance. Trim excess stabilizer from opening of pocket.
Turn right side out. Slip over item and fill pocket.
You're finished!
5x7 #1 Dad Pocket Wrap
NOTE: The elastic will fit most standard dvd cases. It can be lengthened though to accomodate larger dvd cases. It also fit a box of 12 golf balls (may vary and need to be adjusted by brand).
1. Hoop one layer of stabilizer.
Stitch first color (pocket wrap fabric placement outline).
Cut 2 6x14" pieces of fabric and fold in half and press so they are 6x7".
Place one piece of folded fabric on top of wrap outline so folded edge is even with top horizontal straight stitching line.
Stitch second color to secure.
2. Stitch third color (# and one fabric placement outline).
Place a piece of fabric on top of outline.
Stitch fourth color to secure.
Trim fabric as closely to outline as possible being careful not to cut stitching or fabric underneath.
Stitch fifth color (one satin stitching and D fabric placement outline).
Place a piece of fabric on top of outline.
Stitch sixth color to secure.
Trim fabric as closely to outline as possible being careful not to cut stitching or fabric underneath.
Stitch seventh color (D satin stitching and D center outline).
Carefully trim away fabric inside D center outline closely to stitching being careful not to cut stitching or fabric underneath.
Stitch eighth color (D center satin stitching).
3. Stitch ninth color (a fabric placement outline).
Place a piece of fabric on top of outline.
Stitch tenth color to secure.
Trim fabric as closely to outline as possible being careful not to cut stitching or fabric underneath.
Stitch 11th color (a satin stitching and a center outline).
Carefully trim away fabric inside a center outline closely to stitching being careful not to cut stitching or fabric underneath.
Stitch 12th color (a center satin stitching).
4. Stitch 13th color (d fabric placement outline).
Place a piece of fabric on top of outline.
Stitch 14th color to secure.
Trim fabric as closely to outline as possible being careful not to cut stitching or fabric underneath.
Stitch 15th color (d satin stitching and a center outline).
Carefully trim away fabric inside a center outline closely to stitching being careful not to cut stitching or fabric underneath.
Stitch 16th color (d center satin stitching).
5. Stitch 17th color (elastic placement outline).
Cut a 6" piece of 1 inch wide elastic.
Place one end of elastic centered over left hand elastic placement outline so approximately 1/4" of elastic extends outside design and remainder of elastic is inside design.
Stitch 18th color to secure.
Repeat with other end of elastic on right hand side.

Stitch 19th color to secure.
