The 18" Doll Messenger Bag was created for the 5x7 hoop.

It is made entirely in one hooping with NO hand sewing required!

The 18" Doll Messenger Bag requires only 4 minutes stitching time!

It has a short ribbon handle, a long ribbon shoulder strap, a back pocket and two inside pockets!

 18" Doll Messenger Bag

1. Hoop one layer of cutaway stabilizer.

Center a 6x8" piece of fabric on top of hooped stabilizer.

Stitch first color to secure and to stitch two pocket placement lines.

2. Cut a 6x7" piece of fabric and fold in half and press so it is 6x3.5".  

Place folded fabric over TOP portion of design so top of design is completely covered and folded edge is even with TOP pocket placement line.

Stitch second color to secure.

3.  Stitch third color (left long shoulder strap ribbon placement line).

Cut a 10" piece of 3/8" ribbon.  Place one end over left shoulder strap ribbon placement line so approximately 1/2" of ribbon extends outside design area and remainder of ribbon extends inside design area.

Stitch fourth color to secure.

4.  Stitch fifth color (left hand strap ribbon placement outline).

Cut a 3" piece of 3/8" ribbon.  Place left end of ribbon over left hand strap ribbon placement outline so approximately 1/2" of ribbon extends to left of placement outline and remainder extends to the right.

Stitch sixth color to secure.

Trim left hand side of ribbon (1/2" cut end) close to stitching.

Stitch seventh color (left hand strap ribbon satin stitching).

5.  Fold ribbon to the left side of hoop out of the way of presser foot.

Stitch eighth color  (right hand strap ribbon placement outline).

Place right end of ribbon over right hand strap ribbon placement outline so approximately 1/2" of ribbon extends to right of placement outline and remainder extends to the left.  Note: Ribbon hand strap will not lay flat.  Fold excess ribbon toward the left side of design and tape in place so it doesn't become entangled in presser foot.

Stitch ninth color to secure.

Trim right hand side of ribbon (1/2" cut end) close to stitching.

Stitch tenth color (right hand strap ribbon satin stitching).

 6. Stitch 11th color (right long shoulder strap ribbon placement line).

Place the free end of ribbon shoulder strap over right shoulder strap ribbon placement line so approximately 1/2" of ribbon extends outside design area and remainder of ribbon extends inside design area.

Fold ribbon back upon itself and tape to secure inside stitching outline.

Stitch 12th color to secure.

7.  Cut and fold and press TWO 6x8" pieces of fabric  so they are 6x4".

Place one folded fabric over BOTTOM portion of design so bottom of design is completely covered and folded edge is even with BOTTOM pocket placement line.

Place second piece of folded fabric on top so folded edges are even.

Stitch 13th color to secure.

 8.  Cover entire design with a 6x8" piece of fabric FACE DOWN.

Stitch final color to secure.

Remove from hoop.

Trim around perimeter of design leaving approximately 1/4 - 1/2" seam allowance, and clipping curves and corners well.

Turn right side out.  Press well.

Flip top pocket to back of design to form inside top pocket.

Flip ONE of the bottom pockets to back of design to form inside bottom pocket.

Second bottom pocket will be on back of messenger bag.
