The 18" Doll Halters Set was designed for the 5x7 hoop.  Each of these halters is made entirely in one hooping with just one small straight seam to be sewn closed by hand (or by topstitching) upon completion.  This set includes a Plain Halter, a Cupcake Halter, a Flower Applique Halter, and a RicRac Trim Halter.  Each halter only takes a few minutes stitching time.

18" Doll Halters Set (includes pes, jef & hus formats):

Plain Halter

1. Hoop one layer of stabilizer.

Stitch first color (halter fabric placement outline).

Place a piece of fabric on top of outline, covering completely.

Stitch second color to secure.

2. Stitch third color (top ribbon placement lines).

Cut 4 pieces of 12" ribbon (I used 5/8-7/8" ribbon).

Place one piece of ribbon over top left ribbon line so ribbon end extends 1/2" outside design and remainder of ribbon length is inside design.  Ribbon length should be a scant 1/8" from armhole curve.

Stitch 4th color to secure.

Repeat with second piece of ribbon at top right ribbon line.

Stitch 5th color to secure.

3. Stitch 6th color (side ribbon placement lines).

Place third piece of ribbon over left side ribbon line so ribbon end extends 1/2" outside design and remainder of ribbon length is inside design.  Ribbon length should be a scant 1/8" from armhole curve.

Stitch 7th color to secure.

Repeat with fourth piece of ribbon at right side ribbon line.

Stitch 8th color to secure.

Fold all four pieces of ribbon so they are inside design area (except for 1/2" of each stitched end which extends outside design).

Tape in place.

4.  Place a piece of fabric on top of hooped design, FACE DOWN, covering design completely.

Stitch final color to secure.

5. Remove from hoop. Trim around perimeter of design leaving approximately 1/4" seam allowance.  Clip curves and corners.

Turn right side out.  Sew small seam opening closed.

You're finished!

Cupcake Halter

1. Hoop one layer of stabilizer.

Stitch first color (halter fabric placement outline).

Place a piece of fabric on top of outline, covering completely.

Stitch second color to secure.

2.  Stitch third color (cupcake bottom).

Stitch fourth color (cupcake top).

Stitch fifth color (cherry stem).

Stitch sixth color (cherry).

3. Stitch seventh color (top ribbon placement lines).

Cut 4 pieces of 12" ribbon (I used 5/8-7/8" ribbon).

Place one piece of ribbon over top left ribbon line so ribbon end extends 1/2" outside design and remainder of ribbon length is inside design.  Ribbon length should be a scant 1/8" from armhole curve.

Stitch 8th color to secure.

Repeat with second piece of ribbon at top right ribbon line.

Stitch 9th color to secure.

4. Stitch tenth color (side ribbon placement lines).

Place third piece of ribbon over left side ribbon line so ribbon end extends 1/2" outside design and remainder of ribbon length is inside design.  Ribbon length should be a scant 1/8" from armhole curve.

Stitch 11th color to secure.

Repeat with fourth piece of ribbon at right side ribbon line.

Stitch 12th color to secure.

Fold all four pieces of ribbon so they are inside design area (except for 1/2" of each stitched end which extends outside design).

Tape in place.

5.  Place a piece of fabric on top of hooped design, FACE DOWN, covering design completely.

Stitch final color to secure.

6. Remove from hoop. Trim around perimeter of design leaving approximately 1/4" seam allowance.  Clip curves and corners.

Flower Halter

1. Hoop one layer of stabilizer.

Stitch first color (halter fabric placement outline).

Place a piece of fabric on top of outline, covering completely.

Stitch second color to secure.

2.  Stitch third color (flower fabric placement outline).

Place a piece of fabric on top of fabric outline, covering completely.

Stitch fourth color to secure.

Trim fabric as closely to outline stitching as possible, being careful not to cut stitching or fabric underneath.

Stitch fifth color (flower satin stitching).

Stitch sixth color (flower center).

3. Stitch seventh color (top ribbon placement lines).

Cut 4 pieces of 12" ribbon (I used 5/8-7/8" ribbon).

Place one piece of ribbon over top left ribbon line so ribbon end extends 1/2" outside design and remainder of ribbon length is inside design.  Ribbon length should be a scant 1/8" from armhole curve.

Stitch 8th color to secure.

Repeat with second piece of ribbon at top right ribbon line.

Stitch 9th color to secure.

3. Stitch fourth color (top ribbon placement lines).

Stitch 5th color to secure.
